چکیده

Postoperative seroma is a well-known but rare complication of surgery. As a rule, treatment of a seroma consists of continuous wound drainage combined with compression therapy. This approach, however, often results in long-drawn-out treatment and the patient may find the compression therapy stressful. Alternatively, regular aspiration or surgical clearance may be performed. Radiotherapy is another treatment option. Novel therapeutic approaches therefore offer interesting alternatives that increase patient satisfaction.

Lymph node dissection in patients with malignant melanoma is associated with high risk of morbidity.

INTRODUCTION Malignant melanoma is one of the most rapidly increasing cancer types globally, and it is by far the most serious skin cancer. Patients with a melanoma ≥ 1 mm in Breslow thickness are offered sentinel node (SN) biopsy and subsequent radical lymph node dissection if the biopsy is positive. The objective in the present paper was to describe post-operative complications in this group ...

Reducing morbidity with surgical adhesives following inguinal lymph node dissections for the treatment of malignant skin tumors

BACKGROUND Inguinal lymph node dissection (ILND) is associated with a high rate of morbidity. To evaluate the clinical benefit of surgical adhesives to reduce complications in patients undergoing ILND, we compared the use of TissuGlu(®) Surgical Adhesive and ARTISS(®) fibrin sealant with a control population. MATERIAL AND METHODS We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients undergoing IL...

Radical open inguinal lymphadenectomy for penile carcinoma: surgical technique, early complications and late outcomes.

PURPOSE We reviewed our recent experience with inguinal lymph node dissection in patients with penile cancer to assess the incidence and magnitude of complications caused by this procedure. MATERIALS AND METHODS Radical bilateral inguinal lymphadenectomy was performed in 170 patients (340 procedures). Prophylactic and therapeutic radical inguinal lymphadenectomy was done in 67 (39.4%) and 103...

Limiting the morbidity of inguinal lymphadenectomy for metastatic melanoma.

BACKGROUND Surgery is currently the primary treatment modality for metastatic melanoma involving the inguinal lymph nodes. However, inguinal lymph node dissections are associated with substantial morbidity including infection, wound dehiscence, lymphedema, seroma, and deep venous thromboembolism (DVT). Improved understanding is needed regarding the factors predisposing patients to complications...

Systematic review and meta-analysis of the use of quilting to prevent seroma formation after axillary lymphadenectomy

Background: Although there is plentiful evidence favoring the fixation of the skin flaps to the underlying muscles (quilting) to prevent seroma formation after axillary lymph node dissection (ALND), there is a paucity of study concerning its treatment effect. Several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) demonstrated quilting group did not require significantly more operative time than no-quiltin...
